Red Hat Ansible: Real World Success Stories

These case studies originally appeared on Ansible.com.

You've likely heard of our technology partner, Red Hat. Acquired by IBM last year, Red Hat is the world's leading provider of enterprise open source software solutions. One of these solutions, Red Hat Ansible, is a foundation for building and operating automation.

If you think back to how we used to manage computing, it was often a very time-consuming and error-prone process. If we needed a new server to be built, we would ask the system administrators to manually build that instance. We might then require a certain software stack to be installed, along with a required configuration and user IDs and so forth. Once the server is active, we have the added complexity of keeping up with the developers requiring new software releases, configuration changes or issues around scaling. Ansible enables us to automate all these stages into efficient, repeatable tasks, allowing IT to align to flexible business requirements in this increasingly DevOps-driven world.

Here, six companies share their success stories after implementing the Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform:

Ally Financial adopts cloud platform and DevOps, speeds time to market

Ally Financial, a leader in digital financial services, delivers online banking, auto finance and insurance, home loans, investing, and corporate finance. The company wanted more reliable and predictable deployments to keep up with an ever-changing market. Ally partnered with Red Hat to create a containerized hybrid cloud platform to support cloud-native application development, and it adopted DevOps processes to increase collaboration, innovation, and efficiency.

HCA Healthcare uses innovative data platform to save lives.

HCA Healthcare, one of the largest healthcare service providers in the United States, uses data and technology to support modern healthcare. A cross-functional team of clinicians, data scientists, and technology professionals at HCA Healthcare used Red Hat solutions to create a real-time predictive analytics product system to more accurately and rapidly detect sepsis, a potentially life-threatening condition.

Intermountain Healthcare automates IT, delivers innovative patient services faster

Intermountain Healthcare, a not-for-profit health system that includes hospitals, clinics, and health insurance plans, needed to optimize and automate its IT infrastructure to reduce costs and better collaborate to quickly create and launch innovative patient services. With Red Hat® solutions, Intermountain reduced IT deployment time from 2-3 weeks to about 4 hours, cut IT costs by migrating to open source software, and improved cross-team DevOps collaboration.

Global automotive group races to automated driving with data platform

The BMW Group needs to access, analyze, and apply large amounts of data collected from sensors used during road tests to support its automated vehicle initiatives. Created by DXC Technology using Red Hat software, the BMW Group’s new data platform helped the group reduce development time with faster, more accurate driving simulations and data analytics.

BP modernizes infrastructure, introduces DevOps with self-service platform

BP is a global energy company that explores for and produces oil and gas and manufacturers and markets fuels, lubricants, and petrochemicals—all with a focus on lowering carbon emissions to protect the planet. BP needed a reliable, modern technology infrastructure to speed application development and deployment. It worked with Red Hat to simplify and modernize technology and processes, increasing security and agility and speeding provisioning from 2-3 weeks to 7 minutes.

NetApp automates IT with Red Hat

NetApp, a data management technology company, sought to improve the speed and efficiency of its IT service delivery. The company automated manual, repetitive management processes and streamlined storage provisioning using Red Hat Ansible Automation and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform.
